Subject: RE: precision planting

Jackson County, AL

We're going to it this year.  Will be first year with airbags, have always used Deere's heavy duty springs in the past.  We can have fields with ponds and hard hills on the same day.  We need little or no pressure in places and all we can get in others.  I can really see how eliminating our sidewall compaction in these wet places will help season long.  Its hard to do a good job all over in no-till with full downpressure on all the time.  We can plant a through where it will likely go from no pressure to max two or three times.  Should really be nice for those really wet places we have to plant when finishing up.  Those places will have issues all year due to issues at planting.  I've been taking pressure of by raising the planter enough to stay on the ground but still cover the seed.  That works pretty well but isn't how you want to continue doing things.
