Also, we used to use a lot of these when I was a kid (seemed like we got stuck a lot more often and broke more chains years back) - http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/d... - and we would weld them shut. I can't recall one of these ever failing. Fwiw
