Wi | I see nobody mentioned the big one, depreciation? Our wheel loader probably has 3 times as many start cycles as it does engine hours in the 10,000hrs we've owned it. Our feeder shuts it off between every load. We load our ingredients in our commodity shed with a skid steer that also gets shut off.
Idling costs a little bit of fuel but the hours you save on the equipment are well worth it.
Do not worry about the starter, never seems to be an issue.
No diesel engine really likes idling, the newer ones just have emissions equipment to get filled up with the low temps. Even old diesels shouldn't be idled at low RPMs and low temps for long periods of time. | |
