I wouldn't jump to the conclusion of a transfer case right away.... Tons of other things it can be, why choose the most expensive first?
Check wheel bearings and check the slide yoke on the driveshaft first.
Transfer case pump rub kit is worth installing in any of them (issues ended with NBS trucks in 07.5). I use the kit from merchant automotive, much better piece than the other plates that are not much cheaper anymore.
