Subject: RE: John Deere anhydrous machine

N.W. Illinois
We just finished our 4th year(fall applications) with a 2510H.
We replaced the scraper assemble after the second season. These were the old style. The new spring loaded style have close to 350 acres per row on them. I'm not sure if they need replacing or not, haven't evaluated them since we finished.
Initial sticker shock is probable the biggest issue with the 2510. They are very pricey. However they hold their value very well. I have never seen "a deal" on one, new or used.
As already mentioned they are great in rocks. However you can damage the scraper assemble especially if you are running in frozen ground with rocks.
We have never had a issue with sealing unless something was out of adjustment or broke.
Last winter we had 1 inch of heavy rain on frozen ground. Nothing new or unexpected, this seems to happen here every 4 years or so here in NW Illinois. The guys that fall applied anhydrous with traditional shank anhydrous rigs had water running down the rows which caused severe soil erosion, especially on bean ground. It did not matter if they ran cover disc or not. The soil blowouts were butt ugly. The 2510H applicator shined big time and did not have anywhere near the wash. This is to be expected due to their low soil disturbance.
You need firm soil for the disc blade. It needs resistance to turn. If you work your ground in the fall and want to put anhydrous on afterwards you will need to let the soil firm up or you will have issues.
We are glad we bought one, no regrets.
