I'm no electrician but the extra KW doesn't hurt a thing, just means you can run more things in the house than you could with your other one. I have a 20 kw sitting outside to run my place. Should be able to hook up the way you are thinking
We are in the .1-.2 of ice and 10" of snow. Hope I don't have to fire mine up
