Trust me, back in the 1950s and 60s there was far more plowing at under 4 mph than over 5 mph.

Probably figuring wheel slip in more at under 4 than over 4-1/2.

May me going out on a limb here , but I would even think more under 4 than over 4.

The no load ground speed of a two cylinder Deere was under 4 mph.

True you can us horsepower with less weight by plowing faster.

Something else to consider, rocks hit at 4 mph will do a lot lest damage than hitting one at 5 mph.

Also trash will flow thru better at lower speeds.

Many cannot believe how big a plow a tractor would pull for the HP per bottom.
Like a Deere 70 had about 12 HP per bottom.
Speed tells it all.
