Subject: Infared heater baffle

NE IL
I've got an infared heater in my shop that will try to ignite, fail, and try again in about 30 seconds. I blew compressed air through the 40' long tube and some rust came out. But even after doing that the only way I can get it to run is by removing the baffle at the exhaust end of the tube. Is there anything wrong with running without a baffle? It seems to make good heat this way. TIA
