Subject: Deere 9630 losing coolant and using oil

West Central Iowa
A friend/customer has a JD 9630 that is losing about 2 gallons of coolant a day and he said it is using 1-1/2 to 2 gal of oil per 12 hour day. Tractor was recently purchased at an auction, so he knows no history on it. It has around 5500 hours shown on the hour meter. He has not been able to come up with much past history info from JD by running the SN. As far as the coolant loss, he said he sees no coolant leaks. We are aware of the water pump problems these Deere engines have had, so he is going to crack the oil pan drain plug to check for coolant in the oil. He did say his helper has seen some oil drip out of the breather tube, but the engine does not appear to have excess blow-by. Also, he is going to check with the JD dealer to see if this unit needs the dipstick PIP to lower the oil level.

Any thoughts on the oil consumption and coolant loss.

Thanks!
