Saskatchewan, big whitetail country!!! | It is getting less and less popular. Leaving a crop to sit in a swath, then having it rain for a week, is expensive. Having a fancy 100 000 dollar machine to swath, when you can have a cheaper header for your combine is expensive. Aeration bins and dryers, and straight cutting go hand in hand. A standing crop dries out after a rain so much faster, does not lose quality when it rains like swathed stuff, has less chance of sprouting if it rains on it.
That all being said, canola is swathed, and probably always will be. It is a completely different animal than cereals, flax, lentils, or peas. |
