Owensville, MO | Got a buddy that was talking about his corn and which was better today. He explained to me that one variety he had was so much better because when he went to look at it yesterday it was open and green and looked great while the other variety in the same field was rolling in the heat and looked terrible. I was scouting corn fields today and all looked great except one variety that I have on a farm by itself with no others to compare to. That farm got 1.5 inches of rain this morning and temps hit about 90 today and it was rolling some this afternoon.
Do some varieties just roll easier than others and is this an indicator of how well they take stress or an indicator of how well they protect themselves against stress?
If 2 varieties are side by side and one is rolling and the other is not, could you conclude that the non rolling variety handles heat better or is the rolling variety better at protecting itself?
Thanks
Joe
