Polypropolyene has an oily feel to it and takes a little more heat than the others. PVC feels a little drier than polypropolene and its the easiest to weld of all plastics in my opinion. Polyethylene has a dry feel to it and if it cracks, it is often almost impossible to weld it. Likewise ABS has a dry feel and is usually black in color.A rheostat works well to adjust the heat and an air regulator is another very useful tool. Its a good idea to practice on the material you are going to weld first. That can be done on the backside or with another piece of same type plastic. The trick is to get the heat and the air flow adjusted properly. It doesn't take a great amount of air to soften the plastic so the rod can be pushed into the edges that need to be welded. Don't be afraid to run multiple beads if the crack can stand it.
