A two track drivetrain is more efficient than any 4wd drivetrain. A quad has some disadvantages efficiency wise to both of the above but is far superior in putting power to dirt than a 4wd in all conditions, and the two track machine in wet conditions. The quad will flat out move while the others sit home.
