| If it looks big enough to graze then it probably should be. To many tillers and dense of a canopy lead to increased disease and insect pressure. Plus if tiller counts are above optimum there will be fewer and lighter seeds per head and a yield hit, especially if its a bit dry. Pull off when it starts to differentiate or earlier if you think the cattle hurt the stand.
That's how it usually goes here, Canada may be completely different though. Doesn't the top growth mostly burn off in the winter anyway up there? May as well run it through an animal. | |
