Subject: Re: Slugs in rye cover crop

Sanilac Co. Michigan
Sorry had to start a new post. If the plant is eaten off below the cotylydens the plant will die. Beans just can't outgrow them like corn. If it were me and I had access to a vertical tillage tool like a Phoenex rotary harrow, I think I'd dose the rye with glyphosate early in the spring, run the tool over it when the rye's dead, and then run it over again before sowing beans. The idea is to expose the slug burrows and egg masses to light and air and hopefully destroy or at least set them back untill the soybean plant is big enough to outcompete them. I hope I didn't get too carried away with my post but I've dealt with similar problems, and believe me, slugs are nothing to ignore!
