Congress voted to force the USPS to fully fund 40 years worth of retirement benefits, and to do it within 10 years. Name another business that has done that. 11 billion of the 16 billion dollar shortfall is incurred right there. USPS is funding the retirements of people it hasnt hired yet. Another way to do a kickback to a union is all it really is.
The other problem with the USPS is that they hire a vice president every time they lay off a postmaster. Just like every other other business that has gotten in trouble lately it seems. Top heavy management, while the workers that provide the income get fewer. Not a good way to run a business. Other delivery services like UPS and Fedex use the post office for final delivery of their packages. Doesnt take a genius to figure out that USPS can do it cheaper if the competition lets them lose money on the deliveries Fedex cant make money on. Lots of things wrong with USPS..but Privitazation wont solve very many of the problems imo.
I agree spending cuts are the answer. However, no one wants to step up and do the right thing, they just want to get re-elected.
