Southwest OK | Perhaps it is the difference in climate between there and here, but I don't understand the need for a covered permanent hay feeder. I feed hay in rings, and depending on the quality of hay, typically lose less than 3 percent. As quality goes down, losses go up. I move the rings at least forty feet every bale, and have never lost grass in those spots. Generally have better grass where I have fed. Keeps manure scattered and by feeding on thick grass seldom have a problem with mud. It is an excellent way to improve thin soil on hillsides and to stop washes. Allows me to pick where manure is placed without burning diesel. | |
