Work on a farm where you can buy cows/build your own herd. As your herd grows, you can either buy into the current farm or go on your own. At least if it doesn't work out, you will have cows. Breaking up a partnership never works out for either side. Never hurts to go work for some other dairymen for a while. A lot to learn about cows and the best way is to get out and work for someone else. Keep living expenses low and you can grow a herd pretty fast working with the right person.
