Southern Alberta Canada
As stated above 20" and 22.5 are the same size tire only 22.5 is tubeless, you cannot interchange tires or rims. The same goes for 22" and 24.5. Spoke hubs were available for 20" (22.5") and 22" (24.5") wheels again the hub size is 2" larger for the 22" (24.5"). You want tubeless tires, tube type is dangerous, unreliable and obsolete.

If you want larger tires you could go with 12.00/22.5 on 8.25" rims but they are rare and expensive.

You can use spring brakes with your existing valves, the spring side of the brake pot would be plumbed directly to your air tank so what happens is when you pull the supply valve in your truck the service brakes would apply as they do now and as the air bleeds off the springs would slowly take over brake application.
The way I prefer to do it though is to replace your existing valve with a multifunction valve, it has the relay valve and emergency/supply valving built right into it. It isolates the air tank and dumps the air from your spring brakes when you pull the supply button.

You don't have to changeout hubs with drums, you can buy drums only for about $90 each. If you really want to changeout hubs and go with 24.5" tires I say go all the way to ten bolt hub pilot disk wheels, you should have no trouble finding them used at trailer wreckers, since the early '80s there are only a few manufactures of trailer axles.
