Just leave the supported stick in the display at all times when running. If you want to back up your data (recommended at the end of every day), remove the USB stick with the monitor off, make a copy of the CN1 (onto your hard drive or another USB stick), and then put the supported stick back in. You'll need to leave the CN1 folder on the supported stick, as that is where your variety maps are. If you delete the CN1, you'll lose the ability to track varieties.

Using multiple/different sticks in the display is possible, but it's more to manage.
