Check to make sure that the sensor measuring the head height is not bad and reading correctly. Should be a way to view this value going through the field on the monitor. I don't have an S series to be able to tell you where to look for it though.
A quick diagnostic check might be to set button 3 higher and set button 2 where 3 was set to see if it is actually only with that button
