ECIN | We are about halfway through sweeping a 48' bin in which we had a new 8" Brock Harvest-Time unload auger with power sweep installed before last fall: http://www.brockgrain.com/products.php?product_id=284. The system has a 10hp 1-ph motor on it, which worked great through the whole winter while unloading only the center sump of the bin. However, when we first engaged the sweep, the motor would run for about 20 minutes before getting hot enough to trip the heater. We believe what is causing this is too much traction on the sweep drive wheel, causing the sweep to bury itself and overload the motor (also resulting in a shin-deep pile to clean up). Our Brock dealer watched it run and said that they believed there is nothing mechanically wrong with the unit, but running the motor that hot and the endless shoveling seems like a step backwards!
Has anyone had a similar experience with the Brock unload, and what did you do to remedy the situation?
P.S. Today while running the sweep, I applied some oil to the drive wheel in an attempt to allow it to slip, but still ended up with the results shown in the pictures:
