Very common on older JD with the in-line pumps on them. We've got a couple of 4440's that do that. I've seen old CAT's do it all the time too. They're not missing, just the fuel rack is moving back and forth and varying the fuel up and down just enough to keep it going. I think it's just some excess wear in the governor so it can't damp that out until it gets up enough speed for the governor weights to generate sufficient force.

The man told you what it was and you don't believe him, so fine, tell him you want it fixed! I'm sure he'll be glad to install a new injection pump or maybe just the governor on it.


The engine has full warranty from JD, hence the reason I am so adamant about getting it right.
