The duct, made from two 90 degree downspout elbows pop rivited together. It is attached to the air intake pipe by a little steel bracket that is pop rivited to the duct and clamped with a radiator hose clamp to the air tube.
Air exiting a 1480 fan shroud, rolls off that rounded shroud lip and goes almost straight to the rear. The duct directs this screened air to form a high pressure pocket of clean air at the alternator air intake(rear of the alternator), which keeps the big chunks floating around the engine away from the alternator.
Life of a 10SI Delco alternator was 2 weeks to two days without the duct(plugged and burned out), VS 5 years with it(worn out.)
