United States | Its not just the amount of concrete either. Consider how many fields are now tiled. All the excess water that would soak in and leach down is now drained into the waterways. Also consider how many farmers drain those wet spots so they dry in a day as opposed to what used to take a week or more.
The levees also compound the problem by limiting the area the water can spread over. Add in undredged rivers, and that channel gets smaller.
There are a lot of sources and causes for all the flooding, not just the latest weather. | |
