No matter what method you choose, the most difficult part is getting it set up. Once you do, it is usually automatic after that and you don't need to worry about it.

I keep my data backed up on both an external hard drive and in the cloud. Mac has a feature called Time Machine and it is dead simple to set up. Buy and external USB hard drive and plug it in. The Mac OS recognizes the drive an opens a dialog box asking if you want to use that drive as a Time Machine drive - and there is a Yes or No slider. Slide it to Yes, and that's all there is to it. Below is a link to a Youtube video that demonstrates the feature. When the video was converted to YouTube, the far right side of the video was cut off slightly, but you can get the gist of it.

For online backup, I use both Sugarsync and Dropbox. Both work very well.

With this system, I feel very comfortable that my data is safe. If I have a hard drive crash, I can restore quickly from my Time Machine. If the place burns down or blows away in a tornado, I can replace the computer and restore data from the cloud.
