Subject: RE: Pioneer and Dekalb Varieties?

Paragould, AR
I'm a Pioneer Sales Consultant. 31G71 is our best stress/dryland corn. As a previous poster said, it outyields other hybrids at low yield levels (less than 140). P1615HR is great for moderate to high yield environments, and in yield environments above 200 is very good and hard to beat. Again, as a previous poster stated, in those 120-140 yield environments 31G71 is better. P1615HR is a very tall hybrid, with a high ear placement, but with a few considerations can be managed. First, 1615 has a high flex ear. It doesn't need high plant populations. Stick to around 30,000 or so. Second, don't plant late. Period. Plant in late March or the first week or two of April. This will also keep plant height down.

As for traits, both have Hurculex,RR and LL. That is what the "HR" stands for on P1615HR- Herculex/Roundup, so make sure you get an "HR" product if those are the traits you are looking for.

As for the DeKalb numbers, I can't tell you as much. 68-05 good for low to moderate but not high. 67-88 good hybrid but also tall and very weak stalks. Don't know 67-22 at all.

Good luck.
