Subject: RE: buying a beef

Southern Illinois (Belle Rive)
Fat cattle were selling for 1.00 - 1.04 per live pound at Greenville IL Wensday. This would proably be the market to use for our area. I live near Mt. Vernon IL. For the cattle I sell to be butchered I sell them at CBOT market price which is a little higher than local salebarns but It helps with fuel cost of taking 2-or 3 to the packer. The butcher usually charge 40-45 cent per hanging pound. Example 1300 animal will cost you two around $1800-$1900 total animal and processing.
