I really like the generator I bought from Northern Tool two years ago. IIRC it's a 13hp single cylinder Honda, 6600 surge and 5000 continuous. Has a 30 amp 240 volt plug, plus a pair of 15 amp 120 volt, and a pair of 20 amp 120 volt recepticals.

Looking around this was one of the most reasonable generators to still have a honda motor. easy to start (and I don't have electric start). Enough to start my 10 gallon portable air compressor (110volt), and also run my Lincoln 170T welder which is the smallest 220 volt wire welder around.

Should be enough generator to run the house - granted, it would have to be managed for loads the the panel inside the house, but I'm "young enough" to manage that yet for the cost diffrence to go up another 3000 watts or so and it's also lighter / smaller for hauling during the season in the pickup.
