Yeah, we've seen that phenomenon for years, especially when double-cropping beans into barley or wheat stubble.  Beans like to stretch into sunlight, so if you have a higher stubble, the beans will stretch more.  One way to enhance this is to cut your small grain higher, to encourage stretching. The result of this is that the beans will set their 1st set of pods higher - a little easier on the guy running the combine.
