For backup software in your situation, have a look at ShadowProtect Server, or ShadowProtect Desktop. (We use ShadowProtect Desktop on individual machines in a peer-to-peer network, and back up to removable drives that are rotated to off-site locations.) Go to: www.StorageCraft.com
It does a Volume Snap Shot (VSS) and then backs up the entire hard drive...yes, even while you're reading/writing to it; and yes, including Windows. (VSS is a Windows API feature since...Windows XP?? I think.) And ShadowProtect sends you email to let you know if each scheduled backup was successful.
Even if you crash the hard drive, you can restore everything as it was--boot sectors, Windows, and all. We have restored individual files and folders (not a whole hard drive yet), and the restore process is simple & flawless.
