Subject: Re: Wiping a hard drive

I have a sata hard drive I purchased used for my NAS. The drive failed. Most of the data was backed up but there are still bits and pieces I want.
Now this drive is recognizable by linux and the seagate utility to check and erase it, but neither will do anything with it, including erase it by writing 1's and 0's.
Windoze cannot find it.
So, i found a free utility to remove the data, irregardless of the format or partition information.
I had 85gb on a 300gb disk. I retrieved 165gb. You guessed it, 80gb is not mine, and I am fairly certain the guy who had it tried to erase it.
I checked and formatted this drive myself when I got it.
I'm now like Mike, no drive leaves here alive.
Any questions? Feel free to ask.
