Subject: RE: FMC LV Pea Combines

Eastern Shore of MD
I believe Scott was the original patent holder for the pull type viners and FMC either bought the patent or was the licensed manufacturer. I have a Scott viner that has been converted to a stationary rig for small plot harvest research. I'll look at the tag tomorrow, but I think it says Scott Viner patented 1964 and also has the FMC name.

There is a book entitled "Saving our Harvest" by Ed Kee (former University of Delaware Veggie Specialist; current DE Secretary of Ag). It goes into detail about the progression of the canning industry in the Mid-Atlantic and has some chapters that mention viners. Shoot me an email and I will forward you his email address. I know he's got a lot of interesting information and photos that weren't in the book. (I'd look your question up in the book but I loaned to a friend about 2 weeks ago.)

As an interesting side note, I had a friend that just scrapped out 3-4 H2's several LV's and about eight Hamecheks last winter. I still have 2 H2's, 2 Chisholm Ryder 502's and a Hamechek. There are still several 502's being used in DE and a few H2 parked in barns.

I'll try to get you some more info tomorrow.
