Subject: handling round bales with a skid steer

Southern Alberta
I just bought a used JD 332 skid steer and would like to get something to move round bales. Need to be able to pick bales from the field and load on/off a flat deck semi trailer and also to pick out of stack yard in the winter and dump into bale feeders. There will be snow on the bales in the winter.

Should I get a bale fork or one of the buckets with the big grapple forks like big mfwd tractors use. Thinking that the grapple bucket would be nice because when not moving bales or loose straw the bucket is still on for moving snow, dirt, etc.. Grapple buckets cost way more than a fork, but maybe handier as you don't have to switch from bucket to forks. I do not have the power quick tach on my skid steer.

Can you carry 2 round bales with a set of forks? Looks like 2 bales and the wt of the forks would be very close to the rated capacity of the skid steer. Any particular brand of skid steer forks work to carry 2 round bales?

The round bales I handle are 5' wide and 6' tall.

Sure seems like a handy machine so far. Have used it every day.
