Subject: RE: New Holland 8870

South Central Kansas
We have an 8870 and used to have an 8970 also. The 8970 always had hydraulic issues for us. The 8870 hasn't been much of a problem except the wiring harness on the motor started rubbing through the hold down clamps and would throw fault codes all the time. Happened on both tractors around 5500hrs. They are great tractors for the money and like someone mentioned ahead of the times when they came out for a row crop tractor. We have trimble RTK on ours and Also on a deere 8530 and as far as holding the line it is just as good as the deere. It has a harder time finding the line at the headlands, but It also has steering cylinders that are half the size of the deere and a Hyd pump that is also about half the size. Our 8870 Doesn't use a drop of oil between 250 hr oil changes and the oil on the dipstick is still clear when its time to change, never really could figure that one out. We have two 300 gallon saddles on ours and spray with it with a 3 point sprayer, and also pull a 40ft great plains drill during wheat sowing.
