I have only had a hip replaced, looking at doing the other yet this year. First went well.

I know many people that have had knees done. The ones that were active for years before the surgery have all done well with replacements done by good doctors. The couch potato types have not done as well. Always a risk of poor outcomes, but living with the issue is a poor outcome also.


This is by and large, the answer. Deal with the discomfort early on and do the pt as required and the outcome is much better. Neighbor had both done at once a few yrs ago and is a new man. You don't say how old you are. They seem like they're good for about 20-25 yrs of fairly heavy use. Know several ff's who have had them done and were able to come back to work in under 6 mos.
