White mold is caused by the fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. This is a fact. Can nutrient deficiencies make a plant more susceptible to infection? Possibly, but they are not the causal agent. Do you catch a cold from going out in the cold weather? No, a cold is caused by a virus. Are you more easily infected if you are in poor health, sure.
