Western Nebraska | So far you have gotten recommendations for large dogs. We have a rat terrier with Decker blood lines. The dog is quite a bit bigger than a normal rat terrier and he is as gentle a dog as you could ask for. They are great for kids, especially active children because they don't tire easily. Our rat is about 30 lbs of solid muscle that loves to chase rabbits, although he rarely catches them. He doesn't bother our cattle or chickens and I have seen my three year old pulling on his tongue without getting bitten. I also caught her attempting to "AI" him, luckily we got that stopped before it progressed beyond locating the appropriate site. Through all of the terrorizing he has a great disposition and I have never seen him become aggressive with the children. He likes to growl and chew on our border collie but I have never seen it go beyond playing. This is the first rat that we have had and I will certainly be getting them in the future.
