Keeping a tradition of family gatherings for the holidays depends on the family. I grew up in a loose knit family, continuity just wasn't there. And besides we are scattered all over the place. My wife's family all lives within a 150 mile radius except for one and they are very close knit so the holiday tradition continues only now it is organized by the next generation down, the generation that is in the 40 year old range. When that generation gives it up the tradition will probably die. Some of us don't know the great-great grandchildren of my wife's grandparents when they come to the family Christmas. Possibly a few of the cousins might get together but it won't be like the old days.
