Subject: RE: Open heifers

Montana
We have had some very very strange incidence I think with wild, predatory animals coming in and stressing them. We have two calves ripped to pieces and spread over a large area. Weather has offered interesting challenges and Our Bulls are young and we bread in a fairly large pasture.

I know that many people are convinced that, heifers that do not breed up in the first cycle, need to be culled. I can agree that it is an important consideration but, stress from predators and nitrates or even small amounts of some select plants, can cause early abortion and good heifers, who bred in first cycle will re breed in third cycle.

I think we can get $1200 a head out of them and that’s probably all the pay for this time of the year.
I think maybe the buyer will select a few of them to keep
