South central Minnesota | Ties will last a long time, still have some doing their duty as a retaining wall stuck in 40 years and they were old then. Now it was the looks around the house and the smell on a warm day, neither of which bothered me of course but it was a bone of contention for someone near and dear that caused them to be replaced. have seen some very nice landscaping done with ties.
I want to add it's not a long term solution and sometimes when you go the cheap route it costs far more in the long run. Don't know what your climate and critters(carpenter ants for one thing) will do to the ties
