Guymon, OK | Thanks for the book recommendation, Clay. I'm going to need a new book in a day or two and I've been really interested in naval history recently, so that looks like a good fit.
It always amazes me how they were able to raise and refit those old ships. The picture of the 21 derricks used to the right Oklahoma is fantastic; it's a shame she never made it to the breaker in San Francisco after all that effort. In high school I read a book by a Navy salvage diver working in North Africa; that must have been a hellacious job. For the life of me I can't remember the title or author, though. I'll have to see if I can come up with it sometime. |
