Southern IL
I normally drill beans at 7.5" I have planted a couple of fields in 30" 2 years ago, one field got hit with hail right after they were dry and still made 53bpa. the other field made 52bpa. drilled beans were about the same. But we had timely august rains here. I like drilled beans for quick canopy and shoot for 165,000 to 175,000. I planted in 30's at 140,000. My only concern with 30's around here is deer damage....looks a lot worse in 30" rows....maybe it doesn't matter? Damage is damage? Id like to experiment with 15" but my drill and planter is paid for, and Im not interested in double planting 30's. so until prices are better...im gonna use what I have. Good luck with what you decide.
