NW Indiana
We saw similar gains flying on urea last year as a rescue. I would attribute most of the gains to excessive rainfall leeching out the majority of the N we had applied. I wouldn't expect gains like that every year. I'm all for splitting N applications but don't think I would make a late application every year especially with a ground rig. How much were you paying for Y-drop app? We flew on urea for $6-$12 per acre plus urea is a cheaper source of N. Plus I could have 800-1000 acres applied in one day and not run over any corn. Also don't have to worry about if the field is dry enough to run. Only downside I would say is getting a rain to wash the urea in. Wasn't a problem last year but would be a concern if a guy made this part of his yearly nitrogen plan.
