Our Valtra 6650 has this functionality. There is a shift lever in the right hand console that has a neutral position, along with a 540 position and a 1000 position. The shaft turns the selected speed regardless of which size of shaft is installed on the tractor.
Do any of the tractors have an optional variable PTO?
