Franklinton, LA | Yes you are a veteran. You spent a few months on active duty for training plus you went to 2 weeks or more of active duty training each year. The training and summer camps were structured so you would not qualify for the normal veterans benefits.
I spent 6 years in the MS National Guard from 1965 - 1971. In addition to active duty for training we got called out for civil disturbances and hurricanes. About 1970 we had 32 hours of training for crowd control at a rock concert that was planned for south MS. After we were trained, they decided to move the concert to Survivor's area. I don't think the promoters liked the plans we had for protecting private property. | |
