Subject: RE: Frost

Nebraska aka the boondocks
Last week we had another "non event" freeze/ frost. It was 31 most of the night, but, we didn't reach the dew point, so no frost. no frost is a big plus even if it gets below 32. That is why 33 and heavy frost is bad, just like after a lot of hail, the super cool ice can kill plants. Rich79 is right, if the plants are large enough a certain amount of plants, usually the weaker ones, will become unable to untangle themselves and die, this can be a very big problem. If it happens late enough, you can be out with a stalk shredder cutting the tops off. This talk of the growing point only matters if it gets down to 28 and below, then you will have lots of trouble. As with everything, according to the experts, nothing causes damage. Leaned over corn, 30% leaf loss, non event freezes..... So the market won't care at all.
