Colby, Kansas | Adding the chains to tie them up might be a good plan anyways, will give you a chance to see what will work best for you.
Personally I prefer not to run with row cleaners, I've seen them cause more problems than they solve, and are often used to compensate for a problem whose root is further back in the row unit somewhere.
A lot of times with stubble you get once chance to have a clean cut through it before it detaches from the old crown. I would rather burn that chance on my opening disk than on a row cleaner and then have a fluffed up residue condition coming into the opening disks.
I think having the ability to pin them completely up would be helpful in figuring out what you need to do.
