I have done a prime rib this way for 10 years and it is always really good.
4 days before you plan on cooking put a light coat of olive oil on the roast to help the spices stick to the meat.
Rub it with.
1 part black pepper
1 part paprika
1 part garlic
1 part ground rose mary
1/2 part coarse salt.
1/2 part ground dry mustard.

I put a very heavy coating on all sides.
Wrap in plastic wrap and store in coldest part of fridge.
1 hr before cooking get roast out to start warming up.
Set up charcoal grill for indirect cooking. Place on grill at 350 for 12 to 15 minutes a lb or until internal temp is at 10 degrees below final temp desired. You need a temp probe that you can read temp with out opening grill.
You can add wood to smoke if you like that.
I usually take it off at 130 for med rare. That gives you plenty of done on each end for the ones that like it done. with the middle medium rare. Let roast rest in a cooler for 30 minutes minimum.
Enjoy.
