There's a guy around here who never seems to get his hay made before fall sets in. And years ago hay used to be made really late in the summer.. If the cows have no other choice they will take to it..
Can't say its the best practice at all, but if it's what you have to work with - you make due.
I can't see it soaking down in as uniformly as you hope though.
